Brief history: The Capital Medical Society became an
active local chapter of the NMA in Sacramento, California in
the late 1950's. Drs. Abraham Macintosh, Vernon Walton and Arthur
Trent, and John Hudson, were several of the founding members.
The medical society remained active until around 1994. Dr. Lisa
Merritt was President at that time and due to an unfortunate
accident Dr. Merritt was not able to continue to move the medical
society forward. For five years the Sacramento local chapter
of the NMA remained dormant. In 1999, Mr. Don Richie became
the Executive Director for the Golden State Medical Association
and vowed to help revive the Capital Medical Society.
Mr. Don Richie, along with Drs. Nathan Allen,
Lynette Francis and La Donna R. White, the Sacramento Chapter
of the NMA, Captial Medical Society was reborn. In March 2000,
Dr. La Donna R. White was elected as the first President of
the re-established medical society. Both the Mission Statement
and the By-Laws were completely re-written in order to demonstrate
that Capital Medical Society in it's new infancy was meeting
the needs of our members and the community for which it serves.
Drs. Nathan Allen, Schery Mitchell, Chris
Smith, and Dr. CZ Adams are all past officers in the Capital
Medical Society prior to it's "re-birh" and they
are currently active members in the organization.
The Capital Medical Society, Sacramento Local
Chapter of the NMA, although one of the smaller chapters,
has been growing strong and is currently very active.
